B.S. Information Management and Technology ‘12
Hartford, CT
From the time I was a senior in high school I knew I wanted to study business, but I also had a strong passion for technology. The iSchool offered the perfect middle ground for me and I am honored to graduate as an alumni class leader. I have earned a B.S. in Information Management and Technology, with a double major in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises from the Whitman School of Management, and a minor in Global Enterprise Technology.
I am originally from Utica, NY and never expected that I would pursue a degree at a university so close by. Syracuse University has always felt like home to me, especially growing up watching stars like Donovan McNabb and Carmelo Anthony play in the Carrier Dome. After my four years at Syracuse, I am extremely proud to say that I have earned my degree right here in Central New York. This was one of the best decisions I made as I was able to excel in a challenging and gratifying learning environment while creating lifelong friendships. One thing I know for certain is that I will continue to carry my school spirit wherever the next chapters of my life may take me.
The iSchool offered me endless opportunities to experience how technology is utilized in different industries. I interned at three large corporations: BlueCross BlueShield, JPMorgan Chase, and GE. Gaining this professional experience complimented my coursework and enabled me to gain a deeper, more practical understanding of what I learned in the classroom. I had the opportunity to travel to Silicon Valley to learn about the entrepreneurial ecosystem, compete in the MLB Challenge on campus, and even work on my own startup company in the SU Student Sandbox. Inspiring students to be innovative and risk taking is difficult to teach, but the iSchool has perfected it by encouraging collaboration amongst students outside the classroom.
My four years as an undergraduate at Syracuse were unforgettable thanks to the iSchool. I am certain that the new opportunities offered by the iSchool for incoming freshmen will be rewarding and challenge them both personally and professionally. My one piece of advice to students new to the iSchool is to take advantage of all the beneficial resources offered as you work to develop your skills and grow your career. I am excited to be moving to Hartford, CT to begin my career at the Hartford Insurance Group and pursue a M.S. in Information Management part-time and online here in the iSchool. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions about the iSchool, campus life or would simply like to connect.
