Dual Major in Information Management and Technology and Newhouse School of Public Communications

Online news sites, e-newsletters, video downloads, and blogs are competing with traditional sources of information such as newspapers and magazines, other printed materials, television, and radio. New communications professionals understand the need to be savvy in emerging technologies, and many aspiring professionals enroll in the dual degree program in information management and technology and one of the majors offered through the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, a nationally recognized educator of journalists, advertising agents, and other communications professionals.

Students interested in deepening their understanding of communications and information technology can select one of the following Newhouse majors, in addition to completing the information management and technology degree at the School of Information Studies:

  • Advertising
  • Broadcast Journalism
  • Graphic Arts
  • Magazine
  • Newspaper
  • Photography
  • Public Relations
  • Television, Radio, and Film

Students dually enrolled in the School of Information Studies and a Newhouse School program must fulfill the degree requirements of both schools. Upon graduating, they receive a bachelor's degree (one diploma) conferred jointly by the two schools. The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is the home college.

Students may apply directly to the dual programs as incoming first-year students or may add the dual as a current student, after completion of the dual degree admission requirements.

Prospective students interested in communicating with recent graduates can view the alumni profiles.

The conference was held at the Syracuse Tech Garden and awarded prizes, from cash to legal consultation to iPads. The two Syracuse University students founded Grafighters, an online fighting game where anyone's sketches can come to life, located at the Student Sandbox. Grafighters has been named the Economic Champions of 2009 by the Chamber of Commerce and the two were the winners of the 2009 Sandbox Demo Day. Grafighters also received an Orange Tree Fund award of $12,000.
